Additional CME Activities

The EPIC Pain Management Mentoring Network offers its registered members a variety of CME/CE and non-CME/CE resources. These are designed to foster understanding and manage relevant issues experienced during the daily management of patients with chronic pain.

The additional CME/CE opportunities included here address the needs of medical professionals managing patients experiencing chronic pain. These will be available primarily in the form of interactive Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Teaching Rounds sessions, led by an expert facilitator in the field of chronic pain management.

Other opportunities will be added, including on-demand learning activities and a CME/CE supplement.

Do you think that opioid-induced narcotic hyperalgesia is real?
I believe it has happened to some patients, but have seen it very infrequently in the past decade, and the literature does not support this as a significant clinical problem at this point. However, the current data may support opioid-induced hyperalgesia, post-surgery, in patients who have received certain kinds of fentanyl products. The main thing is to talk to the patient and always determine whether the medicine is doing more "for the patient" or "to the patient," and adjust the therapy appropriately.
